I wish you could smell this

This is a tree in my yard that just switched into full bloom. It's absolutely wonderful. The best part is that since we moved in in winter I had no idea what stuff grows here. Ah, and it smells so great... you should come over so we can hang out under it.

How pretty! Spring has sprung.

I'll come over! I'll be there in ten minutes. Or...maybe not. :-)

ich komme, und bringe unsere Hängematte mit!
Der Baum ist super! Ist das eine japanische Kirsche?

So, will someone tell me what the German word for tree is?

I might as well learn something from this multilingual chat room...

:-)

the answer for maryanne: the german word for tree is BAUM - doesn't sound like tree at all :-))))))

Posted by tessa at May 1, 2003 12:40 PM

Baum.

Oh! Like when you sing "Oh Tannenbaum" at Christmas. Or maybe I'm way off...

Hvala, Tessa!

WOW - was that Maryanne speaking croatian??? MOLIM, Maryanne, you're very welcome :-))))

Posted by tessa at May 2, 2003 12:41 PM

tessa, maryanne's mom is croatian - luckily that might help her get accepted by us, staunch patriots! ;) haha...

Posted by dinka at May 2, 2003 12:45 PM

Yes, I speak a little bit of Croatian and my mom's family is from there. We're going to Croatia in June to visit relatives (hooray!). We'll be in Italy, too. Want to meet for coffee in Bjelovar, Tessa? :-)

Posted by Maryanne at May 2, 2003 12:56 PM

hahahaha - imagine that: I have never been to bjelovar. a cup of coffee there would really be nice - the world is sooooo small - it just seems to be big (it must be just another optical illusion ;-)
and dinka: well, let's be generous, she does have at least half-croatian blood - that should be enough to make her a nice person, don't you agree? ;-);-);-) - the three smileys are here because I am just trying hard to make it obvious that I am just JOKING!!!!! I am actually just the opposite of a staunch patriot, as well as dinka - but we can't help pretending :-))))

Posted by tessa at May 3, 2003 8:37 AM

Tessa, you're too funny. Yes, I'm only a half-blood, so I'm fortunate that you all will even speak to me. ;-)

I've gathered from Dinka that you all are not quite staunch patriots, although trips to the islands seem to be enjoyed by all.

I do feel lucky though to have relatives in Europe since it broadens my view of the world, so to speak. And it's great to have them in Croatia since it's so pretty there and an inexpensive place to travel to. Well, the coast and islands are prettier than Bjelovar, but it's all very interesting.

My family is originally from Udbina and they have all of these horrible stories about life there and massacres and their husbands being killed off and children dying and being forced to flee and these stories are so sad. I'm not sure how I'd feel about Croatia if I actually was from there. Not that Croatians did these things to themselves, but you nkow what I mean...

My mom who was born in the USA is obsessed with being Croatian. Interesting how that stuff works out...

I'm just a citizen of the world and mostly a staunch Californian. ;-) ;-) ;-)
