If you want to be pretty, don't have kids.

I've been on the lookout for some nursing clothes lately. I'm told they are very useful for nursing in public, so it's important to get a few tops and maybe a nice outfit for church where one has to nurse discreetly. Little did I know that only women with bad taste in clothes nurse! Now, I hope nobody gets offended but what is offered as nursing wear is just plain hideous. I told Lincoln, the dresses look like something out of "Our house on the prairie" but with a heavy 70ies accent. Frumpy shapeless stuff, with lots of flowers or polka dots... see for yourself.
It confirms my theory again, that the term "attractive woman" never ever encompasses one with child. I guess the ladies that find up-to-date clothes important just don't nurse. Maybe because they're too busy shopping or dieting? I don't know. It's very frustrating. "Motherwear" has a few cute dresses and tops, but their prices are a little scary. So I went on EBay and that was just a big disappointment. How about a terrible big print all over a weirdly shaped dress that will visually add 30lbs and make you look about 10 years older?
I know this is not a big deal, but it is somehow frustrating to think, that by choosing to breastfeed I can ONLY wear frumpy stuff. What does that say about society, the world, the universe!? ;)
I guess I won't be nursing in public then, 'cause I'm not going to turn into "Laura Ingalls meets Dynasty, the Denver Clan" anytime soon!

Those are hideous. Do you sew? Maybe you could make something cuter. Or just never leave the house. Either way. ;-)

hehe, i do sew but i don't know if there are any nursing clothes patterns around. i'm afraid they might look quite the same.
we'll see. maybe it's just time to free myself from that silly notion that nudity is inappropriate in public ;)

I will never, ever be seen in public in a dress like that. I think I would rather run around in my bra and undies (well at least almost, at least if they are cute). Am I going to get in trouble for saying that? ;)

Dinka - you are hysterical! Could have found an uglier dress on Ebay?

Not that you were asking for suggestions but there is a line of nursing clothes called boob (yes, with little dots in the o's) and their stuff is pricey but attractive - or at least I think so. You can check them out at http://www.activebabycare.com And if you think their stuff is tasteless too please dont write about me in your blog : ) ha ha

Not that I need nursing cloths, but those cloths are cute (the Swiss ones)! I hope I can remember this website for when I need it. I love those, classic sporty styles.

I don't read enough German to read Dora's post, so please forgive me if I end up just repeating her in English. You really don't need a lot of fancy "nursing clothes" -- you could get by with a camisole or two from Motherwear to wear under some clothes. Otherwise, just choose two piece outfits and lift your blouse from the bottom.

You can get patterns for dresses, jumpers, bathing suits, etc from www.elizabethlee.com . Pansy was a little frightened by the big hair at first (on the models) -- I just had to keep reminding her that many of those pictures were taken in the 80's, and in Utah!

The patterns are very easy to sew. Check out the sewing contest winners for some of the very stylish clothing some people have made with the patterns -- there's a woman named Lily who places in every contest, she is amazing.

lol, peony!!! you are so very right about the hair, but you forget that i live in the midwest and the 1980ies are still going strong over here, no kidding!

anyway, thanks to all of you who felt sorry for me and gave some good suggestions. i ordered several nursing bras from motherwear, so i can pick the ones that fit after i have this munchkin and i ordered one (fake - you know, it's actually one top but they make it look like two) white nursing twinset that should enable several skirts to advance to sunday outfits. if i need more, i'll see if i'll splurge on a dress, but otherwise i'll just learn how to deal with normal clothes and nursing. i should have enough time to practice.
i just GOTTA look good, you know?! :)
