The things you think about while you are starving and waiting for your pizza to be done baking
I love how certain foods are forever connected to nice memories. Scrambled eggs evoke fuzzy feelings about how my mom made them for me for dinner. Strawberries smell like summer at my grandma's house. Watermelon reminds me of summer and tank tops because you could eat them and get your shirt all messy. Warm cocoa smells like dinnertime and fresh pajamas. Grilled pork smells like summer family get-together and paper plates. Corn on the cob tastes like first day of school, when it's still warm out...
Aaaah. So what's your comfort food?

Tea and a really nice scone, I love good soups especially borche and lemon chicken, and poppy seed cake (the Russian kind with layers). I could live off these foods for years. Nothing brings so many comforting memories as sitting down with a cup of tea and a really nice pastry, something me and my mom and sisters would do very often in the afternoon while chatting. And of course oranges off the tree, you can't get good oranges I found outside of California. :(
home made tuna casserole with lots of sharp cheddar
Tea always relaxes me and reminds me of Wales, rainy afternoons and waiting for Zac to walk home from uni. so we can spend the rest of the day together.
Mexican food says 'everything will be okay'. Friends are nearby, the food is hot, the drinks cold and the atmopshere always light.
Nothing says autumn better than duck confit and figs.
Nothing says winter better than oxtail soup or real Tuscan ragu cooking for hours (if that smell hits me, I am almost paralyzed with delight).
Nothing says spring better than tender young fava beans with a hint of garlic and rosemary, served with grilled lamb.
Nothing says early summer better than Bing Cherries and Apricots, eaten to the point of feeling ill.
Nothing says late summer better than carnitas tacos, beer with lime, cigars, and a bullfight (although with those other smells and a record of pasodobles, I can imagine the actual bullfight (works only in a pinch and only once per summer, otherwise I get grumpy and have to go to Mexico).
Nothing says comfort on an any day, any hour, any place basis like a well-made espresso molto ristretto. Speaking of which, I may have to go indulge.
I think I am ready for Erik's comfort foods anytime!....
