Painting time
It's time for another before-and-after-post. I present to you the Rocking Horse. I got it for free at that one successful garage sale a year ago. The lady gave it to me because nobody bought it and to be honest I didn't even really want it for free but I took it, 'cause I'm nice.

I figured I could sell it on Ebay if I ever get to it. But then some months later I thought I could just paint it. I didn't really like the original stain and the horse hair was messy and damaged. At first I had the idea to do a crackle finish and after I had the whole horse crackled I realized I didn't like it. It was too serious, too faux-looking and not the right thing for a toddler. So I had to redo it all and I have to say my motivation was greatly diminshed. Thank god for spray paint though and so the horse was finally painted and yarn was bought to replace the raggedy horse hair.

This morning... Veronika could not get enough of it. And I get the "Mother Of The Century Award".

That is so cool.
thanks dani! you saved me! i've been complaining to lincoln how everybody snubbed my horse!
I have an old dresser that's in need of a face-lift and I'm just gathering info on how to proceed online. I've never done this before. Did you follow some sort of tutorial or something, or are you just one of those inherently crafty people? :)
Patty,
I googled about furniture painting quite a bit, I also looked into some books from the library. The short version: you need to sand it, then put a primer on it, then paint the color you want and then put a clear finish if you want. You can email me if you have questions.
You are the lady to ask! My dd's bedroom set. It was mine and the furniture itself is in great shape. A dresser, a captain's bed and a night table. But it needs a paint job badly. It had this white shiny paint on it. I have been wanting to refinish it for years but have no idea how to proceed.
Thanks, Dinka!
It's good to know exactly where to start. This dresser is ancient, but it is really good quality. We would never find something remotely as well-made now unless we're willing to spend a fortune.
I'm bound to have more questions so it's good to know I can e-mail you. :) This will be Frankie's dresser (he's 5 now), so I want to do something similar to what you did on Veronika's dresser, only mine would exude boy vibes ;). He wants Spiderman on everything, but I figure if I follow the color scheme at least, he wouldn't be disappointed. I wouldn't know how I'd fare doing decoupage anyway. I have it all in my head--spider webs on a red and blue dresser. lol The question is getting it to look decent.
