The Belly - 17 weeks

I am past 18 weeks already but this is the picture I got, so there. Lincoln took it on our trip to the orchard last week and caught that first few seconds before I freeze up in embarassment. Even my hair looks good although I hadn't cut it in over two months. If you hover over the picture it will mention "Cici" (pronounce: Chichi), which is our current name for the baby. Lincoln has a whole range of crazy names for our future kids and one suggestion was "Cevapcici" with the adorable nickname Cici. Don't worry, as with all prenatal names, we would never ever use it for real. Why my husband thinks of naming our children after ground meat, you ask? What can I say, he's inspired.
So what to say about the second pregnancy belly? It's bigger sooner, definitely. The leftovers of saggy skin from the first one are still around and visible and uhm, unflattering but I am learning to live with it. I am trying to prepare myself and be realistic and calm about weight gain and postpartum body damage and I'm thinking it's working at times, but there are still moments when I freak out about it all - again. My thirties will be for childbearing and childraising (god willing), I tell myself and I have to look at my body as doing that job for that amount of time and give it priority over my wishes to be slim and physically active. But... it's not easy. It's all so exhausting and seems so neverending. Then again the children, they are everything. I just hope I survive their childhoods.

You look beautiful Dinka. You look like a very fit stylish pregnant girl, no matter what your post says. Sigh, even my hair is not the same post pregancy, it is amazing what these kids take from you.
it is amazing what these kids take from you.
And what they give...
I was wondering what you looked like, and you do look great. Hate you (not really, just jealous).
The name is cute. We have always called our preborn babies "Doncece", pronounced in Italian "done-Chay-chi" or how we say it in our strange Neapolitan-American "done-cheech". It means "Mr. Chickpea".
Dinka,
Beautiful! I am fighting that 'postpartum body damage' thing you mention so it is great to have a reminder of how special and beautiful a pregnant mama is.
So lustig. Seitdem ich meine Familie durch Rom geführt habe, hat mir meine Schwester den Namen "Cicerone", abgekuerzt CICI gegeben. So nennt sie mich seit Jahren. Das wusstest Du glaube ich gar nicht, oder? ;)

You look absolutely beautiful! Now that my kids are so much older I look at the picture and remember only the good times. Funny how that happens.
I can tell you, too, that after three children I did manage to get my figure back to looking just fine. Really. It can be done! Just don't even worry about it now (easier said than done).
Just love your babies! :-)
