April 02, 2006: The quiet one
What is he like? He is an angel. That said... he is an angel. Basically, he is... you know. This is one sleepy and calm kid. I am told all babies are sleepy at first and then - not, but see, Veronika was never the sleepy baby. I'm not saying she didn't sleep a lot, but she was also quite fussy and she needed silence and usually a putting-her-to-sleep-procedure (rocking, music, etc.). This one likes to sleep. He sleeps through car rides (he hated the car seat for like 2 minutes and then got used to it) and book store visits and moving from car seat to sling and back and... everything. He sleeps 2 to 4-hour stretches at night!!! Veronika had to eat every 90 to 120 minutes, no exceptions, so I was worried at first, he was starving. But no. He is eating, only he also likes to sleep! I feel so lucky. It's still early to be rejoicing, but even just not being totally drained those first 10 days is a miracle.
When he is really really hungry he will cry, but otherwise he just kind of makes some grumpy noises. Sometimes he sounds like a cat and sometimes just like an old man. In any case, he barely cries, which gives the impression he is never really unhappy, just kind of bothered a little.
It seems he just decided to be very considerate being the second child and all. Occasionally I'm thinking I will just have to make sure I don't forget him somewhere, because he is so calm and quiet.
